Florenceville Baptist has a heritage that includes good music and
musical leadership. With our congregation's various ages, traditions, and
preferences, it is no wonder our musical ministry intentionally includes
diversity in content and style. Worship Team
Using a computer slide/video projection system, our worship team leads
us in mostly contemporary songs, with the occasional blend of
traditional hymns and choruses. Instrumentally, our worship team
includes piano, guitar(s), bass, drums, flute, and djembe. Vocally, we
include harmonies of male and female voices, but the most important
aspect is our team's goal to lead in authentic worship that praises God,
and draws people nearer to Him.
Congregational Singing
Along with the contemporary songs, our services nearly always include
traditional hymns. We use printed hymn books for those who can read
music and like to follow notes to sing parts, but most people like to
look for the words on the projection screen. The Old and New Testament
scriptures include over 1000 verses that talk about music -- music that
praises God, encourages, uplifts, rejoices, comforts; music that is loud
and celebratory; music that is quiet and therapeutic. Therefore, we
encourage everyone to sing -- music is not just for those who may be
defined as good at it! Music to God's ears comes from the heart, and is
not based on the polish of the delivery.
Special Music
Our congregation welcomes, encourages, and values individuals who
minister through solos, duets, trios, quartets, and various groupings --
whether vocal, instrumental, or both. We have people who sing and/or
play Christian songs of various sound and purpose -- traditional;
contemporary; country; southern gospel; upbeat. It might be -- a husband
and wife singing a duet, a child or young person singing and/or playing
a song they like, a man or woman singing with a recorded instrumental
track, several people singing and playing . . . different styles will
minister more effectively to some than others. Our goal is for everyone
to respect and value all forms of music that is offered to God, while
recognizing it is okay to have personal preferences.
Choirs
Often at Christmas and Easter, our Music Committee and others arrange a
4-part cantata. They commonly incorporate drama and involvement of
various ages.
Special Events and Concerts
At various times throughout the year, we invite guest musicians and
groups, often for an evening of music. It may be one group for a
concert, or it may be a mixture of several groups and individuals.
Similarly, our church often provides groups and individuals who minister
and share in music at other churches and venues.
